Preliminary balance of payments data issued by the Central Bank of Jordan indicate that the current account deficit recorded a significant decline during the year 2023, amounting to 1.46 billion dinars, to record 1.25 billion dinars, or 3.5% of the gross domestic product, compared to 7.8% of the product during the year 2022. The decrease in the current account deficit came in light of the significant decrease in the Kingdom’s merchandise trade deficit by 901.2 million dinars (11%) to reach 7.3 billion dinars, and tourism income recording a growth of 27.4% and reaching an unprecedented historical level of 5.2 billion dinars.
