During a visit to Huawei offices in Jordan, the Minister of State for Investment Affairs and President of the Investment Commission commended Huawei for its initiatives to develop the ICT industry in the Kingdom, praising the company as a global leader in the field.
H.E Muhannad Shehadeh received a briefing about Huawei’s programs and services in Jordan. These include the advanced training of Jordanian engineers and technical cadres. Huawei also briefed the Minister about the opportunities in the ICT sector and its importance as a driving force in the Jordanian economy.
The Minister discussed how Huawei’s advanced technologies and solutions can benefit Jordan. He noted the important role Huawei is playing in developing and empowering the country’s ICT talents through advanced training programs held in the Kingdom.
H.E Muhannad Shehadeh stated that Jordan has the potential to become a hub for developing and nurturing ICT talents in the Middle East. The Kingdom’s geographical location and safe investment atmosphere, in addition to its qualified ICT workforce, will position Jordan as a regional leader in ICT.
The minister added that the government, under the directives of King Abdullah the Second, realizes the importance of investments in the ICT field. The Kingdom’s leadership strives to provide investors with a stable environment and aims to ensure the continuity and success of their investments in order to reflect positively on the local economy and the Jordanian community.
H.E Muhannad Shehadeh also stressed the importance of providing the Jordanian ICT workforce with advanced training programs through partnerships with universities and educational institutions.
He praised the projects carried out by Huawei in the Kingdom, and the company’s commitment to providing the Jordanian workforce with advanced educational initiatives. The Minister believes Huawei’s efforts will contribute to developing Jordan as an ICT leader, in addition to creating jobs for Jordanians.
The visit is part of an initiative launched by the Ministry to identify the needs of foreign investors in the country, and address any obstacles they face on the path to prosperity.
General Manager of Huawei Jordan Office, Andy Wu, outlined Huawei’s accomplishments in the Kingdom over the past two years. These include the completion of 9 sections of a MoU signed with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology during a meeting held between the King of Jordan and Huawei’s rotating CEO in 2016.
In addition, Huawei has launched a lab in Al Hussein Technical University and Mutah University. Huawei also supplied 12 multimedia centers to the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, and held advanced training programs for ICT managers from the government and ministries in the Kingdom.
Wu also noted that students from 6 Jordanian universities took part in Huawei’s International ICT Skill Competition and the Top3 students travelled to China to compete in the finals in December 2017 where they won prestigious awards.
The General Manager, in the presence of Hazem Hadad, the Deputy General Manager of Huawei Technologies, said Huawei will continue its work in the Jordanian market by empowering partners and customers with leading ICT solutions, as well as providing advanced training programs for Jordanians to enhance their skills and nurture their talents to create a strong ICT ecosystem in the country.
Huawei employs more than 1000 Jordanian engineers and specialists directly and indirectly in the local market.
Mr. Andy Wu said Huawei has been supporting the ICT sector since the launch of its operations in Jordan in 2005. Huawei has contributed to the development and enhancement of ICT infrastructure for local telecoms, notably 4G technology. Later this year, Huawei will launch an advanced deployment of 4.5G technology in Jordan.
